On September 18th, Sport reported Manchester United were ahead in the race for Arthur Vermeeren. It was also stated Erik ten Hag really likes the Royal Antwerp star.

Fast forward to November and today’s Mundo Deportivo mention Manchester United when discussing Barcelona’s desire to sign the 18-year-old.

The midfielder came up through the ranks of the Belgian club’s youth system and made his way into their first team in August 2022. He has been a regular since then and his displays have caught the attention of several clubs, including the Red Devils.

Barca have been looking at him for a year and also watched the player closely when they faced Royal Antwerp in the Champions League this season.

Prior to the European tie, Barca sporting director Deco talked about the midfielder with his Royal Antwerp counterpart, Marc Overmars. The Catalan club would face competition from the Premier League, where Manchester United are in the mix, to secure his services.

It’s said the Jupiler Pro League side have ‘already warned’ Xavi Hernández’s side that other clubs are ‘willing to bid’ for Vermeeren.

This is when Manchester United and Liverpool are named, and the newspaper adds these two sides are attentive to the youngster’s situation.

Vermeeren’s market value is €17m but Mundo state Royal Antwerp are looking to earn between €20m and €25m from his sale.
