It was in the summer of 2021 that Diogo Dalot returned to Manchester United following his loan spell from Milan.
At the time, the Italian media covered a big saga, where the Rossoneri did their best to hold the fullback and ended up failing in their task.
The Portuguese player made a surprising comeback at Old Trafford, as he eventually stole Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s place in the team and is now the Red Devils’ first choice for that position under Erik ten Hag.
Today, Italian outlet Milan News features an interview they made with Dalot after the match against Arsenal.
They had a chat about his time at the Serie A giants, and one of the questions was if it’s true that he’d like to have stayed with the Rossoneri following their loan spell.
Dalot also spoke about his improvement in defence, as he claims that his evolution had a lot to do with the time he spent in Italian football, and now he’s been managing to bring that to Manchester United as well.
“In Italy I spent a fantastic year. With Pioli I have grown a lot, especially from the point of view of mentality. If I’m a better defender I owe it to him.”
“Italian football is different from the Premier League and I had to adapt in just one year and playing in Serie A has helped me a lot. The playing time in the last two years here in Manchester has grown and consequently so has my self-esteem.”
Diogo Dalot was a starter in all of Manchester United’s games this season, and is clearly Erik ten Hag’s favourite player for his role.
