Following the takeover of Newcastle United by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, the club’s fortunes have changed considerably.

The appointment of Eddie Howe has been nothing short of inspired, as have the signings from the January transfer window, like Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn, and there’s hope that continues into the summer.

Another striker appears to be on the agenda, with Victor Osimhen’s name appearing left, right and centre since the back end of the last market.

With Newcastle now doing much better and looking very likely to remain in the Premier League, the proper planning can start very soon, which could include the Nigeria international.

Of course, with Napoli set to qualify for next season’s Champions League, some convincing would be needed, but money always talks in football.

Gazzetta dello Sport look at the 23-year-old’s potential future on Monday, and write that ‘the rich Newcastle are also in contention’, having ‘already emerged during the January market’.

Should they come forward with the right offer to convince Napoli, then it will be ‘up to the player to make a technical or economic choice’, which is also why ‘we are in a sort of limbo’ when it comes to what his prospects look like.

There’s no denying that Newcastle’s project is ambitious, and following the success of Guimaraes and co., there might be more players tempted to try their luck on Tyneside, knowing full well that even if it doesn’t work out, they’ll at least have a nice wad of cash to wipe away their tears with.
