Club Atlético Tigre president Ezequiel Melaraña has told TyC Sports journalist César Luis Merlo that Mateo Retegui could leave in the summer, amid claims of interest from West Ham United and other clubs.

The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Juniors and has been in demand since he made his debut for Italy during the last international break.

West Ham United are included in his suitors list. Four days ago, Gazzetta dello Sport stated they have initiated contact over signing the striker.

A day later, Tuttosport explained the Hammers’ economic strength could help them get ahead of other clubs to secure Retegui’s services. David Moyes’ side making contact for the player was backed up in Argentina yesterday by Sitio Andino.

West Ham will be delighted to know that Tigre, who have an option to make Retegui’s deal permanent, are looking to cash in from his sale.

“Everything indicates that Retegui will be sold in June. There are several interested parties from Europe. Once the proposal closes for Boca and us, we will buy 50% [the option is $ 2.4m] and we will be partners in the operation,” Melaraña said.

Retegui has managed six goals from nine games this year for Tigre. His suitor’s list could grow even further if he continues to shine for the Argentine club in the next few weeks.
