Although most of the Portuguese press claims that Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala is still to have his medical at FC Porto, two important outlets say today the transfer has collapsed.

One of them is newspaper Record. They say it’s been ‘confirmed’ that the player isn’t in the best physical condition, and therefore can’t arrive at the Dragons at the level they expected.

It’s claimed Mangala had accepted a big pay cut to return to his old club, but since he’s renewed his contract with Manchester City in March, Porto wouldn’t be able to get him on a free transfer either.

But local Porto newspaper O Jogo brings a front page story which is a bit different. They say that it was actually Mangala’s late demands which made the transfer fall through.

They claim the defender makes €3m net per season at City, and even though he accepted a cut, it was still far from what Porto can pay. O Jogo states that the reason the move isn’t happening is purely financial and has nothing to do with his fitness.

In any case, both outlets look reliable enough for us to believe that the transfer isn’t happening so soon.
