Kornél Szűcs arrived at Plymouth Argyle from Hungarian first division club Kecskeméti TE in the summer transfer window.

After being on the bench in the first couple of games, the Hungarian has featured in the last three matches and started against Sunderland, as Plymouth got their first win of the season.

The 22-year-old has now spoken to M1 about his move to England, revealing how vital Wayne Rooney was to bringing him to the south coast.

He said, as relayed by M4Sport: “From the first moment, Wayne Rooney approached me as if we had known each other for a long time, and even before the signing, he contacted me on the phone. Overall, I got more from him than I expected.”

He further said: “He was a brilliant player, but I feel that he can do a lot as a coach, because he has good ideas.”

The defender also went on to speak about the quality of teams in the Championship, praising Plymouth for giving him the platform to succeed and be at his best.

“The league is very strong, all our matches are difficult and all our opponents are very good.

“At the same time, the club provides us with a lot of things, the conditions are professional, maximalism is typical in all areas, so here you can really feel like a professional footballer.”

Szűcs has proved to be a pretty versatile player at his previous clubs and that could be another added bonus for the Plymouth Argyle.

Wayne Rooney was certainly convinced about the transfer idea, and played his part in making it happen.
