Marcos Acuña’s relationship with Sevilla is broken after they decided to reject Aston Villa’s bid for him in the summer, but a January move may now be off the table after he suffered another injury.

That’s according to Marca, who cover the player today and his latest setback in what’s fast becoming a disastrous year for him.

The newspaper explains that injury problems, particularly muscle based, have been a consistent issue for Acuña during his time at Sevilla and that is the case again as the club announced this week he’s set for an undefined spell on the sidelines.

It means this season is fast becoming one to forget, with this his third injury in five months and problems behind the scenes.

That’s because Acuña is ‘angry with everyone within Sevilla’ after the summer, when they told him he could leave and received an offer from Aston Villa.

They were happy to take him and reunite him with Monchi but, because it was their former director of football making the move, Sevilla blocked it from happening and ‘closed the door’ on him.

That ‘broke the relationship’ between Acuña and the club as the player had been keen on the move to Villa Park, where there was a Premier League salary and the chance to play alongside Emiliano Martínez, who had been convincing him on the move, on the table.

He was forced to remain in Spain and has been suffering with injuries since, as well as being replaced in the first team by Adrià Pedrosa.

The hope had been that he could secure a move this month instead and Aston Villa were believed to be in the picture still, but his latest injury appears to have ruined that and he is now set for an ‘exhausting’ few months before hopefully finding a new club in the summer.
