With no extension at Rangers in sight, Alfredo Morelos decided to leave Ibrox on a free when his role under Michael Beale wasn’t quite the same as it was under previous managers, and he was clearly unhappy at not being able to leave in the past.

The striker has been a free agent all summer, and a player who once was a targeted commodity hasn’t quite had the options he wanted, forcing him to now turn his attention to Brazil.

In fact, the former Rangers star is now extremely close to signing with a new club, as Santos are on the verge of getting him in, according to César Luis Merlo.

The journalist took to Twitter to reveal the news, with it said the Colombian is currently undergoing his medicals, and the hope is that he will sign ‘this Monday’, meaning today, with the Brazilian side.

They recently sold Deivid Washington to Chelsea, meaning there is a gap in their squad for a striker, and Morelos is expected to put pen to paper on a contract ‘until December 2025’.

That would see him stay there for two and a half years, giving him plenty of time, at just 27 years of age, to get his career back on track and maybe even earn himself a move back to Europe if he so wishes down the line.

During his time at Rangers, the striker scored 124 goals and assisted another 58 in 269 games for the Ibrox club, which is quite the record.
