FC Midtjylland goalkeeper Jonas Lössl has told Tipsbladet that he was close to joining AFC Bournemouth two years ago.

After spending four years with Huddersfield Town and Everton, the Dane returned to his country and joined Midtjylland in 2021. He had a difficult start to his second spell with the Danish club and was loaned out to Brentford in January 2022.

Later that year, the 35-year-old was in contention to join Bournemouth, who had secured promotion back to the Premier League.

Following his loan spell with the Bees, Lössl returned to Midtjylland instead of signing for the Cherries.

“We all thought I was going to be sold. That was the plan. Football is marvellous. It was a very, very difficult summer, and then I ended up coming home and doing really well,” he said.

“There was Bournemouth and there was Bordeaux. I trained with Brentford in the summer, I trained with Bournemouth and was very, very close to signing with them.”

Bo Henriksen was in charge at Midtjylland when the stopper joined them and the player wasn’t considered by the manager.

Henriksen was replaced by Albert Capellas in August 2022 and that seems to have played a role in stopping Lössl’s exit. In fact, Tipsbladet state his ‘football life turned upside down in a matter of days’.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, ended up signing Neto from Barcelona, and he’s been the first-choice goalkeeper since the start of the 2022/23 season. The Brazilian has kept 12 clean sheets and conceded 87 goals from 55 matches for the English club so far.
