It’s been a rather up and down morning for Wolverhampton Wanderers fans as their club try and replace Matheus Nunes with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

It started off well, with Foot Mercato stating the player was OK with Wolves contract wise but was waiting for the two clubs to find an agreement, while Alsa’Sports, a more local newspaper, then claimed the Ligue 1 side were pushing back any advances for the player and wanted to keep him.

Down the player’s end, there is hope, though, as journalist Nabil Djellit reveals that Bellegarde ‘did not train’ this morning and is ‘hoping’ that Strasbourg and the Molineux side can find an agreement.

What works in the midfielder’s favour is that his contract expires in 2024, and this is the last chance for his club to make any real money from him.

He can easily threaten them with no wanting to renew, and Djellit corroborates the news that Bellegarde already has an agreement with Wolves over personal terms.

Meanwhile, L’Equipe are reporting that the Premier League side are ‘pushing’ to sign him, and have made an offer of €8m, which the club are ‘reticent’ to accept even if the player did have an exit pass.

It seems the problem is Bellegarde has already shown how important he can be to Strasbourg this season, scoring two goals and assisting twice in three Ligue 1 appearances.
