Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘close to reaching a definitive agreement’ with Atlético Madrid for striker Matheus Cunha.
That’s according to Marca, who say that Julen Lopetegui’s side are finalising a deal with the Spanish club and the player for him to move to Molineux in January.
They explain that the papers are still to be signed on the potential deal, but Cunha will leave after a year and a half in which he has ‘failed to deliver’ what he promised.
That has led Atlético to look for a sale and the striker is now in the ‘last days’ of his time at the club, with Wolves keen on his signature.
They are ‘close to reaching a definitive agreement’ with the Rojiblancos and the striker himself over a move.
According to Marca’s information, the firm commitment to give Cunha the number nine shirt vacated by Luis Suárez in an attempt to spur the player did not work and led him to be ‘overcome by anxiety’ in recent months.
His lack of form saw him miss out on a place at the World Cup and that both ‘affected the striker personally’ and led Atlético to ‘accelerate’ on their exit operation for him.
That is now ‘closer to becoming a reality’, with Wolves on the horizon and seemingly the Brazilian’s next port of call.
