As Everton’s woes continued last night in the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool, questions were not only asked but bellowed.

Goodison Park turned toxic as fans, who have finally had enough of years of failure across the club, aimed their ire at those in the boardroom.

Director of Football Marcel Brands was the centre of the focus, and when Seamus Coleman’s mistake handed Liverpool another goal, questions over the failure to sign a replacement in the summer rose right back to the surface.

The right-back position has been a long-term issue for the Toffees, who have long needed to replace Coleman but as yet failed to sign the man to do it.

Throughout the summer, it appeared Denzel Dumfries would be that man, with numerous reports making it clear Everton were pushing for his signature.

Ultimately they never got him, though, with the Dutchman’s performances at the Euros bringing bigger sides to the table and Inter Milan securing his signature.

Things, though, have not gone well for Dumfries. Calciomercato.it cover that today, with the player labelled a ‘bluff’ for his performances.

They explain that while Inter are ‘on a roll’ of four wins in their last five and just two points off the top of the table, there is a ‘sore point’, and that is Dumfries.

He is not ‘fully convincing’, with Matteo Darmian’s excellent form making that more apparant and meaning questions are being asked about the transfer.

That’s certainly the opinion of journalist Tony Damascelli, who recently told Radio Radio; “Apart from Dumfries, who in my opinion is a bluff, the rest of the Inter squad is of a high level, there is no doubt.”

While that’s unlikely to bring much joy to Everton fans at this moment in time, it does go to show that perhaps Dumfries wasn’t the answer to their right-back issues.

Of course, you could also say that it proves he should have moved to Goodison Park, but that is an argument which does little to help anyone at this point.
