While Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich is yet to get off the ground, Manchester City are planning ahead just in case.
We covered reports last week that if the German move this summer, they will try to sign Mike Oyarzabal from Real Sociedad as a replacement.
City were willing to pay his release clause to get a deal done and, while it was never mentioned, the assumption was that the player would be keen on the move and the chance to link up with Pep Guardiola.
Except, it seems that may have been a little presumptuous. AS report that, despite the interest, Oyarzabal has no intention of making a move to City should it be offered.
In fact, they state ‘at no time has he intended to leave Real Sociedad this summer’ and instead, he wishes to stay at the club.
He’s actually been pretty annoyed (AS actually say ‘enraged’) at the suggestion he would jump at the chance and thus would reject any offer should it come. He actually prefers to stay at the club, and there are several reasons why.
Not only does the project excite him, but he’d also like to continue growing ‘at home’ and is excited at inheriting the number ten shirt from Xabi Prieto.
The newspaper make it clear that he’s not turning down the chance indefinitely, he’s simply ruled it out this summer. Should something happen he’s made it clear he’ll tell La Real directly, but this year it seems he’s staying put, and that could mean Sané ends up doing the same.
