Earlier today, we covered Catalan newspaper Sport giving their current take on Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United.
It had been Sport who had first brought the update on Saturday, which talked of advanced negotiations and a deal closing in for the midfielder’s transfer. They also explained that both the Red Devils and Barcelona are confident that once they finalise a transfer fee, the Dutchman will agree to the move.
AS now have an article which concentrates on De Jong’s stance and how he’s seen the whole thing. It’s explained that he was initially taken aback when learning Barca wanted to sell him.
He doesn’t feels he’s one of the club’s biggest problems, and was shocked to find out they wanted him gone. However, he’s been comforted by the knowledge that Manchester United, who are ‘still considered a giant’, want him to lead their new project under Erik ten Hag.
Now it could all rest on personal terms.
AS say De Jong currently earns €11m per year, a figure which is after tax. He’d expect a rise to move to Old Trafford this summer, so Manchester United will presumably have to offer him a figure higher than that.
The newspaper end their article by saying: ‘There is a feeling the operation may be closed in the coming days.’
