Despite claims that talks between Sunderland and Paris Saint-Germain for Edouard Michut had been called off, there is still hope.

It was said that a last minute hitch had seen a spanner put in the works regarding the young midfielder’s move to the Stadium of Light, but that seems to have been solved.

We say this because L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi is now reporting that ‘talks have started up again’ between the Ligue 1 champions and Sunderland for the 19-year-old.

In fact, everything seems to be heading in the right direction, as the midfielder is ‘once again very close’ to signing for the Black Cats.

He doesn’t provide much more than that for now, but previous reports suggested that Michut would be moving to Sunderland on loan with an option to make the move permanent for €5m.

The player had even travelled to England and passed his medical, but a disagreement between the two clubs over Paris Saint-Germain wanting to add a buy-back clause had put a stop to everything.

That appears to now be behind them and the transfer is back on, with Tanzi then adding in a further update that Michut will travel back to England to ‘finalise his loan with an option to buy’.
