It was inevitable the English media would link Newcastle United with a move for Gareth Bale, and then it was equally inevitable the Spanish media would cover it.

Monday’s edition of Marca does so, but they add information of their own as well. After covering what English tabloids already have, and explaining Newcastle’s expected new wealth to a Spanish audience, Marca then add they found out some snippets themselves.

They claim Bale is ‘among the priorities’ for Newcastle’s ambitious new era, and that they’d want to team him up with Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs’ former manager has ‘let it slip’ he’s working on a new project, and it’s thought that’s the Magpies.

Marca go on to explain that Tottenham wouldn’t have a right of refusal, saying there had been an agreement they would have preference should Real Madrid receive an English offer for the player, but that expired on June 30th 2019.

Newcastle’s problem would be convincing Bale himself. The club aren’t in European football and are a long way from the heights of the Champions League, so it would all be down to money and selling a project.

Marca say Bale is Newcastle’s ‘dream’, and it’s one which is ‘no longer impossible’.
