Today is a pretty important day for Rui Patrício’s future.

After asking to rescind his contract with Sporting last Friday, the player had one week to give up on the decision.

One of the goalkeeper’s demands to take the action back was for club president Bruno de Carvalho to step down. As nothing changed on the Lions’ board, Patrício is now keeping the request for the termination.

So what’s happening to him? Well, newspaper O Jogo seems to have some pretty exciting news for Wolverhampton Wanderers fans today.

The outlet claims that Rui Patrício is now joining the Wolves on a free transfer, as there’s no way back for him at Sporting.

They mention that Wolves did try to sign the goalkeeper in a €18m deal last week, which they say collapsed due to the Lions’ late demands. Now, after all this mess, the Premier League side won’t have to spend a penny on the transfer.

It’s interesting that O Jogo doesn’t even make much noise about it, and writes it all in a side story, as you can see in the image attached. We have the feeling that if they were 100% sure of the transfer, they would be highlighting it somehow.

Newspaper Record also has a story on Patrício’s deadline today, but they don’t claim that he’s now joining Wolves.

They actually bring some interesting info saying the court now has 45 days to judge if his rescision for just cause is legit or not. Sporting will obviously fight against it, so this battle shouldn’t end so soon.
