The longer the summer goes on, and the more Jean-Michel Aulas publicly takes Tanguy Ndombele to market, the more it seems the huge fight predicted for his signing isn’t actually happening yet.

That’s not to say there’ll be no interest in the Lyon midfielder, but Aulas’ idea of Europe’s biggest clubs engaging in war and pushing the price way too high hasn’t got off the ground.

On Thursday, L’Equipe state there’s interest, ‘particularly Tottenham’, and that Spurs are ready to ‘make a big effort’ to get the signing over the line.

Whilst the Premier League club are ‘not the only candidate’, they’re the only ones named in this latest French report.

Tottenham have been linked repeatedly, with claims they also tried to sign the midfielder last summer. Aulas has openly tried to bring PSG into the running, and has suggested the player could go to Juventus or elsewhere.

There’s likely to be further efforts to nudge the Ndombele market forward, but hopes of getting €80m+ are perhaps fading, which can only be good news for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Lyon player will be an impressive signing for whoever gets him, and maybe Aulas’ efforts have had the opposite impact to that he hoped.
