Wolverhampton Wanderers’ interest in Sporting’s midfield duo João Palhinha and Matheus Nunes is once again highlighted by Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã today.

A story from the outlet claims Lions’ manager Ruben Amorim is now ‘ready’ to lose both players, since there are advanced negotiations for them to leave this summer.

First speaking of Nunes, the newspaper claims Sporting are willing to sell him for €40m, and it’s currently Wolves who lead the race. Plus Bruno Lage is also said to be chasing Palhinha for a fee of around €20m.

The double signing, of €60m, reportedly depends on the sale of Ruben Neves to Barcelona, who’d cost that amount, and the money would end up going straight to Lisbon.

With Correio da Manhã perhaps going too far here, Wolverhampton fans should be aware that this is more of a Sporting story, with them focusing on the fact that Ruben Amorim is getting ready for a season without Palhinha and Nunes.

Wolves are indeed linked to both midfielders, but the information about their pursuit and talks for them is very shallow, especially the claim their efforts will depend on Neves’ departure for the exact same amount.

Another reason to be cautious with this story is claims made by other Portuguese outlets today. Newspaper A Bola said there’s an ‘imminent agreement’ for Palhinha to join Fulham, who seem to be overtaking Wolverhampton in the competition, while O Jogo said the Molineux side’s ‘lack of liquidity’ are is stopping their pursuit of Nunes.
