Habib Diallo has been linked with a number of English clubs in recent months, of a wide variety of levels.
Currently playing for Metz, the 25 year old has seen his named associated with Leeds United, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
His 12 goals in 26 Ligue 1 matches so far this season will be what has been attracting scouts, yet it’s unlikely the striker would play an important role for any of the bigger clubs mentioned.
During the winter market, Tottenham were looking for a back-up to Harry Kane, having failed to replace Fernando Llorente during the summer transfer window. Spurs were linked with several options, and now Diallo’s agent insists the Metz player was one.
Quoted by Senegal’s APS, Thierno Seydi said: “Already last January, there was an offer from Tottenham.”
Diallo has a contract with Metz lasting until June 2022, but Seydi insists he has an ‘exit voucher’ for the next market. The agent also expects clubs to make their moves for the player when the European window opens, with that date still being unsure despite several leagues restarting.
Whether Tottenham would try again will likely depend on how their chases for other targets go.
