Ahead of the summer transfer window there was a lot of confidence in the Catalan media that Chelsea would release Cesar Azpilicueta and he’d become a Barcelona player.

At times there was a belief he could make the move for free, even after the Blues had used their option to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge. Since then the situation has changed and Chelsea simply aren’t prepared to let Barcelona get their own way on this one.

Thomas Tuchel has publicly made it clear that he values the player highly, and the manager appears to be irritated by the doubt around the defender.

AS report Xavi Hernandez has told Azpilicueta he won’t let him down and will continue trying to get him to Barcelona, however, the relationship between the two clubs isn’t the best right now.

Chelsea are ‘offended by recent events’, namely the Blaugrana beating them to Raphinha and now trying to snatch Jules Kounde from their clutches. They’ve rejected a €4m offer for Azpilicueta and are in no mood to help out the La Liga side.

Xavi hopes the situation will change, and that the Premier League side will calm down with time.
