Tottenham’s failure to secure Champions League football could see them miss out on a move for Sevilla defender Jules Koundé.

That’s according to ABC Sevilla, who confirm that the Frenchman is ‘of interest’ to Tottenham, as well as Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Koundé is widely expected to leave Sevilla this summer after establishing himself as one of the hottest prospects in European football.

Tottenham have been named among his suitors by various sources, with ABC stating at the end of last month that they had ‘bid for him’ through an international intermediary, although that hadn’t reached the offices of the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

They follow that up today and state that while they remain interested, their lack of Champions League football could be a hindrance.

Koundé has reportedly admitted that he would prefer to join a club playing in the competition, which would rule out Spurs in the process.

That will come as a major blow to new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who is believed to have made Koundé his first target as manager.

That now looks unlikely to come to fruition, although there is plenty of time for Spurs’ management to change his mind in the coming weeks.

Perhaps if his other suitors, Real Madrid and Manchester United are named, don’t come calling as he is clearly hoping, Tottenham’s chances could come rising back up.
