Portuguese newspaper Record have it all worked out.

Benfica are signing Aaron Martin from Espanyol, and that’s to replace Álex Grimaldo who will moving to Napoli to replace Faouzi Ghoulam who is off to Manchester United.

It’s not the first time such a scenario has been presented, but Record sound pretty convinced. They believe it’s being stated locally (in Italy) that it’s just a case of ‘waiting’ until Ghoulam to Manchester United is confirmed, and then the other two transfers will fall into place.

We’ve been covering Italians claims on Ghoulam moving to Old Trafford, and a few days it was reported Jose Mourinho had given his approval to the signing and Jorge Mendes was pushing to get the move over the line. It must be said, we’ve not actually seen anything in Italy say it’s just a matter of time, although similar has been insinuated.

Ghoulam has gone through two major injuries in recent times. First he did his cruciate and when recovering from that he fractured his knee-cap.

Whilst the latter sounds excruciatingly painful, it’s the former which would likely be the cause of any worry going forward.

Before committing to any deal for the left-back, Manchester United would surely have to be doubly convinced of his fitness, and may want a transfer fee structured on appearances.
