Back in early December, it was reported in Portugal that Leeds United had commenced talks to sign Tobias Figueiredo from Sporting.

The Lisbon club were happy to facilitate a deal at €3-4m but it was thought even early on they could be brought down from that figure and may even go for a loan.

Leeds United were then repeatedly linked over the following weeks and into the January transfer window but they didn’t want to agree to Sporting’s demands and didn’t even seem willing to provide an alternative proposition.

On Monday the Portuguese press brought Nottingham Forest into the equation, saying a concrete approach was expected from the Championship club. Record, a Portuguese newspaper, now have an update and claim an agreement has been reached.

Nottingham Forest will loan Tobias until the end of the season, and then there’ll be a compulsory purchase clause. That means Forest will have to pay €2.3m in the summer for the central defender, regardless of whether Tobias impresses or not.

Although Record state there’s still some details to finalise, the loan fee is put at €200k, and should Nottingham Forest sell Tobias on in the future, Sporting will have a first option and then 20% of any transfer fee if he goes elsewhere.

It sounds a good deal for Sporting, especially given their original demands were €3-4m, and demands from the Lisbon club are always way over the top, it’s something they almost pride themselves on. Nottingham Forest will now be paying, if the claims are correct, a total of €2.5m for the player, and have given up 20% of a future sale.

All this could indicate why Leeds United walked away.
