Ruben Amorim has been strongly linked with Aston Villa since the Premier League club parted ways with Steven Gerrard.

A good result at the weekend has seen Villa get a little breathing space from the relegation zone, and there’ll be a little more confidence for the coming weeks.

Amorin has has a difficult season with Sporting, something which has been largely due to him losing key players in the summer window. Midfield was particularly hit, with Palhinha moving to Fulham and Matheus Nunes joining Wolves.

The latter deal was thought to have annoyed the Sporting coach, who thought he’d be keeping the player for the current season. That potential crack in the relationship gave Aston Villa a way in, and there’s been repeat talk of whether they’d be willing to pay his reported €30m clause.

Over the weekend it was reported in England that Amorim’s clause has actually reduced to €10m, making a move much cheaper for Aston Villa, but Record have since strongly dismissed that.

The Portuguese newspaper say the claim ‘does not respond to the truth’ and the clause remains €30m. It’s stated Amorim is clear that he doesn’t want to leave Sporting during the season, and sees himself staying at least until next summer.
