Earlier this week, we covered reports from Germany which revealed Ian Maatsen’s new contract with Chelsea includes a £30m release clause.

That was seen as quite surprising, as he’s just been loaned out to Borussia Dortmund, who’d have no actual priority to sign him permanently in the coming months.

An update on Maatsen’s situation is now brought by Sky Deutschland journalist Patrick Berger, who points out that Maatsen has some optimism around him in the Bundesliga.

It’s said the Chelsea loanee is giving Borussia Dortmund fans some hope that he could stay after this period, as he’s not ruling out the permanent move.

“I’d love to come back to the summer. Why not? But we’ll see what the future brings,” said Maatsen.

Confirming the previous claims, Berger writes it’d take around €35m for Dortmund to sign him from Chelsea.

Maatsen had been getting little chances to play for the Blues this season, so his move to the Bundesliga seems to have been the best solution for all parties.

He had two starts there since his arrival, and even made an assist in the 4-0 win over FC Koln on Saturday. So we’ll see how convinced the German club will be to go for his purchase.
