German outlet Bild names Newcastle United and West Ham in the race for the Mainz 05 centre-forward Yoshinori Muto today.
The report actually starts with official information from the Bundesliga club, claiming that there are English sides interested in signing the 26-year-old.
Director Rouven Schröder is quoted as saying: “The English have definitely woken up, there is now increased interest in Yoshi.”
Apparently there hasn’t been an official quote on who would be keen on taking the player, but Bild makes it clear that Newcastle and West Ham would be the main contenders.
Mainz are currently having their preseason, and one of their opponents will be West Ham, who they’re facing on the last day of July.
Bild claims that Muto could cost up to €20m, while Schröder says they will ‘evaluate’ the offers they get. As the player’s contract expires next year, this will be a tough decision to make.
