When O Jogo’s website reported Newcastle United’s official offer for the Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris yesterday, we thought there would be big updates from most of the local media outlets today.
However, only two newspapers have stories about the situation, and they aren’t very big.
O Jogo have a short paragraph writing the very same claims they did on their website. It’s said Newcastle want to get Samaris, whose contract with Benfica expires at the end of the season, on a six-month loan deal.
Only then there would be an option for the player to sign a two-year contract, with Benfica keeping a percentage of a future sale. The Magpies would pay €300k for that, and the Eagles are still to respond.
Meanwhile, newspaper Record backs up Newcastle’s bid, but the claims are a bit different.
They say the Magpies are offering a ‘symbolic amount’ of €500k to take the player for good, with no mention of loan or option of a future contract.
Record says there’s no definition on the situation for now, however, it’s a good chance for Benfica to get some money for a player who could soon walk for free.
