Portuguese newspaper A Bola had a story on Tuesday detailing the situation of Sporting stars for the next transfer market. The player who’s more likely to be sold is William Carvalho, who has been linked to a Premier League move for years.

And in the list of clubs who could take him, A Bola mentions Manchester City, West Brom, Newcastle United and Olympique Marseille. The midfielder has a €45m release clause and shouldn’t leave for much less.

CapturarBut truth is that Carvalho was never really linked to Newcastle United.

In late March, English website HITC suggested the player to the Magpies, saying he would be an ideal signing for the club. But they never claimed there was real interest on him.

This is the only link between Carvalho and Newcastle we’ve seen, so that’s probably where A Bola took it from.

We’re pretty sure A Bola would have an exclusive article if they had some information on Newcastle chasing Carvalho, so it’s very likely this was just a quick search they made and included the first English club they could see involved with the player.

Should fact follow fiction, then Rafael Benitez would have to persuade Newcastle to spend big for the club to have a chance.
