Since the Brazilian media reported Newcastle United’s €35m bid for Vasco da Gama wonderkid Andrey Santos, there have been no big updates on the Magpies’ chase for the wonderkid.
And following all this silence, outlet Globo Esporte now comes up to confirm that the talks for his move have indeed gone ‘cold’.
The website writes that Vasco are ‘closed for sales’ as they see no need to let their young talents go. The club are focused on the end of the Brazilian season, as they fight for promotion to the first division.
It’s claimed that the talks with Newcastle for Andrey’s transfer ‘did not advance’, since the Rio de Janeiro side believe this is not the time to discuss his future.
According to Globo Esporte, any new attempts are expected to be left until after the Brazilian season, which finishes in December. For now, the player is protected by a €50m release clause.
Despite being only 18, Andrey Santos has been crucial for Vasco’s Serie B campaign, with six goals in 26 appearances. That’s one of the reasons they can’t engage in negotiations for him at such an important time of the year.
So if Newcastle continue to be interested, they shall have to wait a little.
