Newcastle United may have been handed their second chance to sign Bayern Leverkusen ‘gem finder’ Tim Steidten after it was announced he was leaving the German club.

Sport 1 report that after four years at the club Steidten and Leverkusen are going their separate ways with ‘immediate effect.’

They report that the transfer guru, who is known in the industry as a ‘gem-finder’, had already expressed his desire for a change months ago and that has now been granted.

Top clubs, including Newcastle and Chelsea, have ‘repeatedly been interested’ in his signature and have now been presented with their second chance to get him.

Newcastle already made an approach last year and Sport 1’s information is that they wanted to get him with an ‘immoral offer’ of a five-year contract with an annual salary of €3m. Steidten refused that at the time.

Whether the Magpies still want him after securing Dan Ashworth’s signature isn’t mentioned but they have been determined to focus on youth moving forwards and hiring a talent finder like Steidten would be a smart move to make.

He has played a key role in securing talents such as Edmond Tapsoba, Jeremie Frimpong, Odilon Kossounou and Piero Hincapie for the German club in recent years.

He also arranged deals for the likes Patrik Schick, Amine Adli and Sardar Azmoun while at Werder Bremen he played a ‘decisive role’ in signing the likes of Serge Gnabry, Davy Klaassen, Thomas Delaney and Ludwig Augustinsson.

He’s now set for a new club in the summer after a ‘short breather’ according to Sport 1, although whether that is Newcastle or someone else remains to be seen.
