Newcastle United could be given the chance to sign January target Alassane Plea for just €15m this summer as Borussia Monchengladbach eye up sales.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the player is one of several that the Bundesliga club will happily let go if the right bid comes along.
The newspaper explains that Gladbach are set to be a ‘major construction site’ this summer after Max Eberl left and was replaced by Roland Virkus.
He is now ‘fighting for the future of the club’, particularly as no fewer than ten players are set to be out of contract next summer.
Meanwhile, ‘candidates for sale’ have already been identified, and 28-year-old Plea is one of those on the shortlist.
It’s explained that if ‘adequate offers’ of around €15m were to arrive for him and several other players, the likes of Marcus Thuram and Breel Embolo, then these players ‘could leave’.
Now that could be interesting news for Newcastle, who were believed to be very keen on Plea back in the January transfer window.
Reports during that window stated the Magpies had asked Allan Saint-Maximin for information on his fellow Frenchman, with it later claimed they ‘want to make a bid’ for him.
That never happened as they focused their attention elsewhere, but their interest was certainly there, and he was a player on their list not long ago.
With him now available for as little as €15m, a figure Newcastle could comfortably afford, perhaps that interest will pick up once again come the summer.
