On Wednesday, we covered claims from the French press that Montpellier star Elye Wahi wants to go to West Ham United amid an offer from Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, the Europa Conference League winners are also expected to face competition from RC Lens in the race to sign the striker, according to Foot Mercato.

Lens have shifted their focus on the West Ham target after missing out on Chuba Akpom, who left Middlesbrough for Ajax.

It’s claimed the Ligue 1 side have identified Wahi as an ideal target and have accelerated their efforts to sign him in the last few hours. They are also not concerned about Montpellier’s request of €30-35m.

The website explains that the 20-year-old is being chased by several clubs and the list includes West Ham.

Lens are trying to get ahead of David Moyes’ side to win the battle for Wahi and seem to have received encouragement.

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, West Ham haven’t yet made an offer to sign Wahi. He further adds the Hammers are currently focusing on Rennes’ Jérémy Doku.
