If Matteo Darmian doesn’t leave Manchester United this summer, that’s really because the club didn’t want him to.

Besides the many Italian clubs who get linked to the fullback every day, we can now add Portugal to the list of possible destinations. Because according to O Jogo, Lisbon giants Benfica are currently in negotiations for his arrival.

The Eagles had already tried to get the player on a loan deal in January, and given his wish to have more minutes this season, they are making another attempt now.

Despite reporting the negotiations, O Jogo’s story doesn’t have much about how things currently stand or the details about a possible deal.

Knowing Portuguese clubs as we do, it’s safe to say that Benfica will either want Darmian on a loan deal, or in case of a permanent transfer, they will want to pay little.

Less than the Italian sides.

But with so many clubs interested, it’s been easy for Manchester United to force an auction, or for Damian to just pick a new club.
