Feyenoord have been left surprised by Liverpool’s decision to move for Arne Slot today and the ‘rush Liverpool now seem to be making’.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who, alongside De Telegraaf, provide details on what’s happening with Slot today.
Liverpool have made their move for the Dutch coach today, opening talks with Feyenoord formally over a deal for him after claims yesterday that he was now the leading candidate.
Reports earlier today indicated Feyenoord have already rejected their opening bid, but Slot is keen on the move and a deal is expected to be worked out between the two parties.
VI now say Feyenoord have been left ‘surprised’ by Liverpool’s sudden ‘rush’ to get Slot and are putting the brakes on matters.
They want to take their time over proceedings and technical manager Dennis te Kloese has insisted they are ‘not keen’ to let Slot go. Slot, though, wants the deal agreed.
Feyenoord are in a strong position though as their manager is tied to a two-year deal and doesn’t have a release clause in place. They won’t begrudge Slot the dream move, particularly after he turned down Tottenham last year, but any deal will be on their terms.
De Telegraaf say similar, explaining that Feyenoord are in ‘serious negotiations’ with Liverpool about their manager.
They’ve received the ‘first million offer’ for the Dutchman, who they say has ‘set his sights’ on moving to Liverpool and wants the switch ‘at all costs’. He sees it as a ‘dream opportunity’ and has already spoken to several of his staff about joining him at Anfield.
Feyenoord, however, are taking a ‘tough stance’ and will demand ‘considerably more than €10m’ for their manager, particularly if he takes his staff with him.
They’re not commenting on proceedings but are in ‘full discussion’ with Liverpool, who are being led by Richard Hughes in negotiations.
