Everton’s attempts to sign Donny van de Beek in previous windows didn’t lead to any joy for the Merseyside club, and the player and his then agent subsequently spoke about the frustration they felt towards those in charge at Manchester United.

Since arriving at Old Trafford from Ajax, the midfielder has struggled to have any impact at all really, finding it hard to get chances and then finding it hard to impress enough when he did get on the pitch.

Crystal Palace have been keen on a loan signing this month, and they’ve been beaten at the death by Everton, with the Toffees seemingly not dumping all the plans they developed under Marcel Brands.

De Telegraaf reports the Manchester United player has been ‘freed’ by Everton, and that the club have ‘rescued’ him from a ‘hopeless’ situation with the Red Devils.

The Dutch newspaper say Everton had wanted to include an ‘option to buy’ in the contract, but that was rejected by the Manchester side.

It’s now down to Van de Beek to show he can consistently perform at a high level in the Premier League.
