Last week, we covered claims from France and Belgium that explained West Ham United are in the picture to sign Rennes star Jérémy Doku.

The Hammers are ‘keenly interested’ in the winger and have already taken steps to try to sign him.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who state West Ham have started negotiations with the Ligue 1 side for the 21-year-old.

It’s further stated David Moyes’ side have tabled the first offer for the Belgium international.

The details of the proposal aren’t mentioned but the report states Rennes have rejected it as it didn’t meet their request of €55m.

Foot Mercato add the ‘negotiations continue’ between West Ham and the French club. The latter are waiting for the Europa Conference League winners to return with a ‘suitable’ offer to land the attacker.

Journalist Santi Aouna covered this report and took to Twitter to point out the Ligue 1 side rejected West Ham’s ‘first official’ bid for Doku.

Doku came off the bench in his side’s 1-1 draw against RC Lens on Sunday. After the tie, Rennes manager Bruno Génésio gave a cryptic response about the Belgian’s immediate future at the club.

“He will continue to progress. Where? [smiles] If he didn’t start today, it’s because… there you go. We’ll see. Because he was one of the best players in the game last week, it’s up to you to draw the conclusions. Nothing is done,” he told Prime Video, relayed by RMC Sport.
