Atalanta’s Marten de Roon has been linked with a move to newly promoted Premier League side Middlesbrough.
After announcing deals for Viktor Fischer and Bernardo Espinosa, it seems Middlesbrough are determined to add more players to their squad ahead of a difficult season in the Premier League.
Thursday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport claims Middlesbrough are close to completing a deal for De Roon, and that ‘it only lacks an official announcement’.
The Dutch midfielder signed for Atalanta at the start of last season from SC Heerenveen in a €1.3m deal, and the Serie A club are now expected to make a sizeable profit on him.
Gazzetta haven’t mentioned how much the 25-year-old would cost Aitor Karanka, but reports earlier suggested Middlesbrough made a bid of around €12m.
The final amount paid by Middlesbrough for De Roon could very well be more than €12m, but the clubs may choose to keep it under wraps.
De Roon made 36 league appearances for Atalanta last season, and is primarily a defensive midfielder.
