Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne played the full 90 minutes in Belgium’s 1-0 win over Canada in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old was not at his best for De Rode Duivels at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, especially during the first half.
Het Laatste Nieuws claim the Manchester City star, who was disappointed with his own performance, was unrecognisable for the first 45 minutes.
Fenerbahçe forward Michy Batshuayi scored the winning goal for Belgium just before the break. Pep Guardiola’s man did not celebrate with his teammates and instead, was having a discussion with his manager, Roberto Martínez.
“It was emotion. We’re men, not choirboys. It was about details. Everything’s been talked about,” he said, as quoted by HLN.
Regarding the ‘heat of the moment’ incident with the defender, De Bruyne explained: “It was about football matters. That was our discussion. That we were looking for the long ball too much while there was room.”
Belgium are currently leading the group table with three points, two points ahead of Croatia and Morocco, who are second and third.
