Chelsea may be willing to sanction a loan deal to send Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan this summer so they can ‘reassess’ the situation around the striker.

That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who say there will have to be plenty of sacrifices made on all sides if the Belgian is to get a return to his former club.

Earlier today, we covered a report on how Lukaku had been holding video and phonecalls with his former club ahead of a possible move back there from Chelsea.

He’s made it clear he’s not happy in London after his £100m+ move last summer and wants to go back to Inter, where he was happy and flourishing as a result.

It’s not easy for the Italian side to make that happen, though, because finances remain tight and aren’t going to drastically improve before the summer.

Gazzetta now pick up on that and explain that Inter would need ‘two big sales’ from the current squad if they were to secure the dream double signing of Lukaku and Paulo Dybala.

At the moment, the double deal is ‘very difficult economically’ as they will need to ensure this window is another profitable one in which they also ‘cut further’ the wage bill.

The reality is they would need to ‘make ends meet’ to pull off any deal, and while the budget hasn’t been defied yet, sales are needed.

Negotiating with Dybala is easy because he will be a free agent, and while his €10m demands are far too high, a deal could be struck at €7m per year instead.

For Lukaku, the ‘somersault would be triple’ because Chelsea will likely want to recoup much of what they paid for him.

Their transfer business is currently locked because of the takeover, a situation that should be finalised at the end of April, which will then open the door to deal with Lukaku’s future.

Letting Lukaku go on loan ‘may seem crazy,’ but it would allow them to ‘reassess a three-figure investment’ that has been sitting on the bench for months.

Lukaku would also have to make a major sacrifice, though, and go from the €12.5m he currently earns at Stamford Bridge to the €7.5m deal he was on previously at Inter.

If he won’t do that, then there are no margins for a deal to take place and Chelsea, if they do decide to sell, will have to find somewhere else for him to go.
