Before facing Benfica this week, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was asked if former Porto player Luis Diaz could give him any advice about the Portuguese rivals.

The coach admitted that even though the winger tried to communicate about it, they ‘couldn’t understand a word’ that he was saying, as he can’t speak English yet.

Those quotes had a big reaction in the Colombian media, who made Diaz sound a bit ridiculous.

Many outlets claimed that could be a problem in his career at Liverpool, with reports wondering if Klopp would bench him forever for the lack of communication.

Now it turns out that Pipe Sierra, who provided great coverage of the winger’s move to the Reds, came up to defend the player.

On Twitter, the journalist writes that since arriving at Anfield, Diaz is ‘frequently’ having English classes, and that has been helping him adapt to the squad.

“Several Colombian media took Jürgen Klopp’s words out of context and it was clear that he speaks the language of football perfectly,” says Sierra.

Since signing for Liverpool, Diaz has three goals and one assist in 13 appearances, and was crucial in the Reds’ 3-1 win over Benfica.
