Chelsea and Southampton are still discussing the payment method for Romeo Lavia’s transfer, according to an update from Belgium.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri writes on Twitter that the Saints are taking longer than expected to decide about the instalments.

This delay is not what Chelsea and Lavia’s entourage wished for, as they wanted the deal done today.

Still, there’s apparently no chance that a small setback could make the deal collapse.

Tavolieri makes it clear it’s just a ‘matter of time’ until Chelsea and Southampton finalise deal, as everything is ready for Lavia to have his medical examinations with the London side.

Earlier today, the very same journalist claimed there’s an agreement in principle between the clubs, with the Blues paying the Saints £50m plus bonuses.

The final details were still to be sorted out, though, and that seems exactly what is happening in this new update.

Lavia reportedly has a seven-year contract waiting for him at Chelsea, with an option for a further year.

Signed by Southampton for €12.3m last summer, he leaves the club after 34 appearances.
