River Plate could consider signing Newcastle United’s Miguel Almirón in the winter market, according to claims from Argentina.
Eddie Howe hasn’t relied upon the winger regularly in the Premier League this season as he’s clocked in 103 minutes from five league games.
The Paraguay international ‘wouldn’t frown upon’ leaving Newcastle in order to not lose his place in the national team.
That’s according to TyC Sports, who say River Plate aren’t closing the door for the player to arrive at the club in January. They have qualified for next summer’s Club World Cup and Almirón’s addition can bolster their squad.
The 30-year-old had previously expressed his admiration for the Argentine club on several occasions.
River Plate’s desire to take the player away from Newcastle is also discussed by journalist Renzo Pantich. He claims the South American club made contact to find out the conditions needed to sign the attacker, and his comments are relayed by Soy del Millo.
“River is probing, in a formal and concrete manner, the contractual conditions of Miguel Almirón. He’s a River fan, he has a tattoo on his back, and he is currently playing very few minutes in the Premier League,” he said.
Almirón has over 18 months left on his deal with the Magpies. Soy del Millo state it ‘won’t be cheap’ for River Plate to secure his services as Newcastle United would ask close to €18m.
