This summer Real Madrid signed the very highly rated young goalkeeper Andriy Lunin from FC Zorya Luhansk.
Planning for the future, the Spanish club secured the 19 year old and then had to work out what to do with him. Remaining and being third choice was an option, but Madrid didn’t want to hold back the youngster’s development, so a loan was always the preferred option.
Now Lunin has secured a loan to Leganes and will hope to get enough football to see his progression continue.
Things could have been very different indeed, report Marca.
Liverpool had their own plan to sign the goalkeeper this summer, reports the Spanish newspaper on Saturday.
A plan was built by Liverpool and an agent which would have seen the Ukrainian sign for the Anfield club, but then be loaned out to Las Palmas.
The Spanish club agreed, and everything looked good for all those involved.
But then Madrid pushed ahead of Liverpool and secured the transfer themselves.
