Manchester United are facing an uphill battle to secure the signing of Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich, with the Frenchman preferring a move to Inter Milan.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who, alongside Corriere dello Sport, cover the player today and the struggle for Manchester United to get him.

Gazzetta report that while United remain in the race for the defender’s signature, Pavard has made it clear he would prefer to join the Nerazzurri.

According to the Gazzetta’s information, the layer has ‘said a round no’ to Manchester United, turning down a ‘rich’ offer from them in favour of going to Inter.

Bayern and Inter are now trying to work out a deal, with the Italians reluctant to match Bayern’s demands for the player and currently short by €5m.

That’s not to say Manchester United have given up and they remain keen on him, even willing to beat any offer that Inter make, so long as they can move on Harry Maguire first.

They face a tough time convincing Pavard, though, who has made it clear he prefers Inter after being impressed by their decision making compared to the ‘hesitations’ from Old Trafford. Feeling wanted so strongly by Inter has swayed the defender considerably.

Corriere, meanwhile, state that Manchester United continue to make things difficult for Inter because of their willingness to pay more.

They explain that Inter would prefer to only pay €30m if they can but United have let Bayern know that they have ‘€40m ready’ to spend on Pavard if they can move Maguire on.

Thus, the German giants are holding out for that figure and making things complicated for Inter, knowing they have a buyer ready to pay more.

The reason United haven’t moved definitively is because Maguire is still at Old Trafford. His refusal to join West Ham threw a spanner in the works and until they convince him to move on, something they think they can do, there will be no deal for Pavard.

That gives Inter their window to work things out with Bayern, boosted by the will of the defender, who wants Milan more than Manchester at this point in time.
