Bringing in Erik ten Hag as their new full-time manager, the Red Devils will need to revamp their squad from top to bottom, with the defence an area that needs particular attention.
Harry Maguire found himself much maligned throughout the entire campaign because of his performances, while Raphaël Varane struggled with injuries, and the Dutch manager will want more options at his disposal, with Eric Bailly and Phil Jones likely leaving this summer.
A left-footed defender could go a long way in his system, which is why, perhaps unsurprisingly, Alessandro Bastoni is now being targeted.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who have a whole article on the matter, explaining that Inter need to sell at least one star, but ‘everything will be done to avoid the sale of Lautaro Martinez’.
However, ‘today, the most credible hypothesis for Bastoni remains the other team from Manchester, Ten Hag’s United’.
It’s pointed out the former Ajax manager likes the Italian defender ‘a lot’, with the Red Devils showing in the past that they ‘have no problem investing heavily in defenders’.
For Bastoni, ‘it takes at least €60m’, because anything less would see Inter ‘not even consider the hypothesis of the sale’.
This is something Manchester United know, and why they are ‘studying the right offer’.
