In a poll conducted by the Mirror, a huge majority believe Manchester United star Marcus Rashford should be awarded the Golden Boy award for 2016. This week Italian publication Tuttosport released the shortlist of the best U21 players for this year.

The Mirror have run the poll for the past 24 hours and 43% of the public have voted for Rashford to be given the prestigious award. The England international burst onto the scene in February during a Europa League tie, and has since been on the rise.

Rashford’s closest challenger is Tottenham Hotspur youngster Delle Alli with 14% of the vote. Like Rashford the Tottenham midfielder made his name for himself in the last campaign following his move from MK Dons. Bayern Munich summer signing Renato Sanches made up the top 3 with 10% of the public vote.

Due to Rashford’s and Alli’s performances last season they were both included in England’s Euro 2016 squad in the summer. The two youngsters have become key players at their clubs despite their young age, and look to be the future of the England national team.

Interestingly, Tuttosport are running their own poll and that’s being led by Gianluigi Donnarumma, followed by Rashford.

Previous winners of the Golden Boy award include Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, who picked up the award last year.
