Borussia Dortmund are hoping that Manchester United will come in and offer €120m to take Jadon Sancho away from the club this summer.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say a ‘squad refresh’ is needed in Dortmund this summer if they are to start competing for titles once again.
At the moment, the worry is that BVB will miss out on the Champions League next season, with them currently four points outside the top four after the 4-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker.
If that were to happen, it would leave a huge hole in the club’s coffers of around €35m, which they actually need so they can reinvest in the squad and start afresh under new manager Marco Rose.
Dortmund’s ‘hope’ is that Manchester United, who, as you will be more than aware, were interested last summer, will pay €120m for the ‘star player’.
With that money, the Bundesliga side could then look for a replacement and are eyeing up Donyell Malen from PSV Eindhoven.
Whether Manchester United will offer such an amount remains to be seen, though.
Given they weren’t willing to pay it last year, when Sancho was at his peak, it seems unlikely they will this summer after a disappointing campaign from the Englishman.
Indeed, after several months of suggestions that Dortmund will accept a lower price, there is no logical reason for United to pay €120m.
Still, the door is there to be walked through if they want to, with Dortmund already at the table and ready to start negotiations.
