Kalidou Koulibaly has been one of the best defenders in world football over the past year and that’s brought him to the attention of several huge clubs.

One of those is thought to be Manchester United, with the Premier League side repeatedly linked with the Napoli player. There’s clearly a lack of a commanding senior defender at Old Trafford so the links have made some sense.

What may not make sense, at least for Ed Woodward, are the figures involved.

Gazzetta dello Sport report on Monday that Manchester United are ‘ready to go crazy’ to try and get the transfer done and dusted next summer. The English club are prepared to pay a huge fee to make the defender theirs, and even wait until next summer to do so.

The Italian newspaper believe Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis could be convinced to talk to clubs should an offer reach €120m.

Barcelona are also said to be keen but it’s pretty certain they wouldn’t approach such a figure.

Koulibaly turns 28 years of age in June, and Woodward may also think such an amount is too high… but Gazzetta are confident Manchester United are prepared to go into the stratosphere.
