Manchester United have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ to sign Donny van de Beek, report De Telegraaf on Sunday evening. The transfer fee is put at €45m, including bonuses, and the player has agreed to a five year contract.

Earlier on Sunday evening we covered a report from Dutch public service broadcaster NOS which said Donny van de Beek has chosen to sign for Manchester United.

There was no agreement on fee or personal terms at that stage, but it was explained talks would continue throughout the evening.

AD, a Dutch newspaper, have also given their take, and it’s reported sources close to the midfielder have been able to ‘confirm’ that Manchester United will soon be the player’s next club.

That’s all they had in terms of claims, but they did cover the potential cost. It was once again claimed Real Madrid had a €50m agreement to sign the player and that the deal failed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

That was repeatedly denied by media close to the Madrid club, even before the pandemic. Marca and others spoke of interest, but it was made clear that Van de Beek was simply an option like many others, and the club certainly hadn’t agreed to signing him.

The Dutchman was there for Madrid if they wanted him, they just weren’t that sure whether they did.

Regardless, AD explained that given the price Madrid agreed to was €50m, then it’s likely there could be a Covid discount to bring it down to €40-50m for Manchester United.

With De Telegraaf putting the agreed fee at €45m with bonuses included, that fits in nicely. Now it’s time for a medical and to sort the paperwork out.
